looking forward

  • 4-month instead of 6-month iteration cycles?
    • Argument: the base has largely stabilized, so there is less-and-less difference between releases there. It currently takes ~2 release cycles to really deploy a feature (e.g. PointCloud2) due to the lag of stable release -> integrate. There is also a lot of pressure to get more in each release because it will be six months until the next platform release.

    • Pro: get new stuff out more quickly, requires steadier effort instead of 6-month, last-minute crush
    • Con: more platforms, more for us to potentially maintain
    • Enablers: mega-hudson, more static stacks.
